What's going on with Waikiki Village?

So locals have probably noticed our historic mid century motel on the south side 'Waikiki Village' was closed for the season and undergoing renovations.  Plans for the building were unclear until intrepid reporter Retro Myrtle Beach Guy got to the scene today!

After finding the owners on site with contractors, we got the inside intel and unfortunately, the story appears to be the functional end of Waikiki Village Retro Motel as the plans are to turn the historic gem into long term rental apartments.

While the aesthetics of the building will remain as per the historic registry status, you will no longer be able to stay there while vacationing!  

This is obviously a blow to local retro motel enthusiasts but hopefully it's renovation and continued use will still add value and beauty to our south side community.
