Mint Jelly, the upcoming sci-fi mob movie from Speinsted and Ederpt, Myrtle Beach's premiere media publishing house has begun filming in Myrtle Beach! Starring Radioactive Tiki in his second feature film as a street smart mobster from beyond the moon with aims of conquest and fame in the extraterrestrial underworld.
In his first lead role Radioactive Tiki is excited to flex his acting muscle with a new role that is sure to challenge perceptions of the happy-go-lucky Tiki bar aficionado/friendly co-host. Taking the lead in the film is new territory for Tiki who played a supportive role in his first feature 'Retro Myrtle Beach Guy: The Movie' which has been well received by festivals and fans! The director and creator Retro Myrtle Beach Guy commented "I'm really excited for audiences to see Tiki in this new role as an assertive lead! He's a natural for the role and he's REALLY jumped in with both feet with incredible results. It's an honor to both direct and to co-star with Tiki and to see his performance translate in the final product. I think this is going to be something really special.".
While this promises to be a much darker film than their first or any project before, Retro Myrtle Beach Guy wants his fans to rest assured that while the subject matter may be darker? The general formula would still be a family friendly film. "We generally don't use course language or euphemisms for adult situations. We like our content to be family friendly. No one likes having an awkward look or question while trying to enjoy a movie with our families, and Mint Jelly will be no different! We are aiming to capture the feeling of a mob movie as far as the tension and the more lighthearted bonding moments but without the grisly, gratuitous violence or other adult scenarios"
This will be the second movie directed by Retro Myrtle Beach Guy, and while he will be taking a secondary role in this film, he is excited to do his speaking through the story telling and cinematography. "My character is kind of a 'of mice and men' kind of guy. He's all brawn and no brains. I was recruited by Tiki's character for specifically those reasons. He's the brains of the operation and I'm just the lug he sicks on whatever poor soul owes him money."
Local member of Stage Two Theater Company Jadon Lowe will be joining the production in his first appearance, and Speinsted and Ederpt are in discussions with local personality and community leader Tommy Palmieri to join the cast to great anticipation. When asked about the addition Retro responded "when I first thought up this character I knew IMMEDIATELY that I wanted Tommy to play it, so hopefully we can work it out with his schedule and bring the character to life! We're in discussions with a few more people the audience will be familiar with as well.". As of now there is no word on whether local personality and cast regular Duane Farmer will be reprising his role from 'Retro Myrtle Beach Guy: the Movie' as the vampire from Venus 'Todd Hutchinson' but new developments are still being announced as filming commences.
Another surprising choice for Retro, the director has committed to make this sci-fi movie using only practical effects, unlike their previous movie which utilized chroma key effects. 'Yeah, I don't know what the heck i was thinking when i promised that {chuckles} it was fun when making the alien blood but I have questioned the decision once or twice since."
Originally slated for a summer release, delays in filming have pushed it back. Speinsted and Ederpt representatives have announced a goal of a fall release to coordinate with the one year anniversary of their inaugural project.
